The most important thing I ever taught my kids was empathy (and I still reinforce this on an ongoing basis). It affects the way they view themselves and others and will impact on every relationship they have. Teach them to leave and be kind and good people and they will see the Watchtower teachings and practices for what they are.

I have no choice..I must study with my kid
by Jez inmy ex is a devout jw and is very very sly in what he says to our 9 year old.
she went to the assembly with him this weekend and he made her stand over by the baptism and said, "that will be you someday won't it sweetheart.
" or if she says, "but dad, all religions worship the same god, jw's are no different.

What one thing would you like to vent?
by MelbaToast inmine is my mom.. ii dont know where to start and dont know where to end.
therapy sessions later, i am still at a loss.
i think that a parent is someone who loves and protects you from harm, doesnt shame or bribe you to make you into "a perfect pioneer".

I would like to vent about vents. They often blow air where I don't want like in my eyes. They gather dust and it looks disgusting. That's my vent.

Without Evil, there cannot be Good...
by ohiocowboy inmost of us have heard the above expression, and when one thinks about it, the statement is undeniably true...without evil, there cannot be good-and vice-versa.. consider this, after the 1,000 years in paradise, once satan is set free for a short time to try to cause havoc, and is then completely done away with, what would "paradise" be like then?
since there would supposedly no longer be any evil, how would the perfect utopian society claim to be good?
you can't have one without the other.. would the people become emotionless, brain-dead, robotified zombies?

what happens when you don't believe...?
by Preston ina couple of weeks ago my husband and i had a conversation, and it made me think that even before we started dating i was comfortable with the fact that he had a strong connection with the spiritual.
he takes it (if that?s the right expression) a bit further than most people though.
he has told me that he believes in ghosts, elves, faeries (?the little people silly), santa claus, the easter bunny, the loch ness monster, atlantis, astral projection, alien abductions, zeus, athena, telekinesis, voodoo, santa ria, astrology, reiki, and communicating with aliens that reside on the pleiades.

Sad, the guy obviously needs treatment. Having said that, your question posed was about trust with lovers etc. For me this question extends beyond lovers to any relationship where love and affection is concerned i.e family and friends. I am of the opinion that when someone does not support the other in their claims of events the relationship is in doubt. I think of all those I care about in my life and I cannot imagine being unsupportive of their claims. I suppose in a hypothetical situation if someone's claim completely challenged my idea of common sense (as it clearly would in the example above) I would make all efforts and attempts to help the one I love get the treatment they need. In a relationship as intimate as a lover's relationship I cannot imagine the trust and respect continuing at a level that makes for a strong and healthy relationship.

problems with jw daughter-in-law
by QCA1 ini haven't been here in awhile and i'd like to say hi once again.. i have written what i am about to tell once posted it and it disappeared, must have hit the wrong button.so here i go again.
over a period of time my grandson who is 15 has been making regular contact to my youngest son (who is his uncle)they talk about what teens talk about, football and music, cal my grandson has also been allowed to stay over once in a while, which i might add surprised me a little, you know staying with his worldly gran, his mum is a jw and my eldest son cals dad is almost one you could say.. anyway since cal has been staying over at our house he has opened up about a lot of things none that were instigated by me i must add.he said he dosen't want to be a jw he hates it and his mum and dad have been hitting him quite hard.i believe him because his mum has always been heavy handed since he was a young baby,i did threaten her once after i heard she had knocked cal to the floor hitting him when he was about 3yrs because he said ' oh god ' has kids do sometimes,my young daughter was there at the time and she told me.
not long after that they left the village, after sometime normality resumed with our family and we got back on speaking terms.. cal has always been rebellious and i know his mum has always hit him and now he is 15 he is questioning more and fighting back so i quess he is in more trouble.then about a month ago my young son had a distressing phone call from cal he was sobbing and asking if he could come and stay he had some clothes packed so i spoke with cal and asked if he had been hit again and he said yes very hardbecause he forgot to say a prayer before the meal and his mum lashed out at him.

I don't think your post or thread disappeared. This is just a very active and fast moving website. If you click on "active topics" and go back a couple of pages you will find not only your original thread but many more responses to it. New Light and Tacking in the wind
by Hondo ini am not and never have never been a jw, nor do i intend to be, but for personnel reasons have become interested in their beliefs and practices of, as seeminly bizzare as they are.. the similar doctrinal change examples of new light, and of a sail boat tacking in the wind, to provide justification for their continual changes, when they occur, confuses me somewhat.
if the jw's believe that the "end" is just around the corner, or "soon" as one will probably tell you, is the light at its brightest at this point in time; does the sail boat reach port?
is there a "last light" that may indicate in some way, shape, or form, when the end will take place?

I am just waiting for the ball to drop. Sooner or later someone (or their spouse or children) is going to say "Hey you said some of us who witnessed the events of 1914 would never die because God would intervene. What about that WT book published in the 30s that said millions living now will never die? We donated our lives to you, sacrificed careers (some even sacrificed having kids), we sacrificed everything and worse gave you all of our money. You lied and we want our lives back or you lied to our parents to drain them and we want compensation." Ya I'm just waiting for someone to start the class action lawsuit - that will be entertaining.

Lawnmowers... what is your oppinion???
by Elsewhere init is getting close to time for me to buy a lawnmower.
when i was growing up and cutting my dad's lawn he always had a self-propelled lawnmower.
i was very lucky in that i never had to use a push-mower.

I have used both over the last 28 years. When I ventured out on my own I specifically purchased a gas mower rejecting the electric type I used as a youth on my parents lawn for the reason that I was too lazy to deal with the inconvenience of navigating around trees with a cord. It requires more time and patience. When the gas mower expired I rediscovered electric mowers for the reasons of less maintenance, noise and pollution. I now use a Black and Decker electric mower. It weighs less than a gas mower - much less. It is self mulching but not self propelled. The cord is an inconvenience but a only a minor one. Since I require using it for the trimmer and blower as well, it is convenient that it is already out ready to use after the mowing is completed. With so many trees for you to navigate you may find a great deal of frustration in avoiding getting tangled or accidentally mowing over the cord.
